Our office and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that all children be seen for an oral examination and oral health review within 6 months of eruption of the first tooth or by one year of age.
Your child's reaction to the first few visits can set the stage for his or her entire lifetime of dental experiences. Because of this we try to make every dental visit special for each child.
We Strive to Make Each and Every Visit to Our Office Fun!
On the first visit, you and your child will meet with one of our dental hygienists or assistant and the doctor. We will review your child's health history information and discuss proper diet and oral health habits. Proper brushing and flossing techniques will be discussed. Your child will be shown some of the "tools" the dentist uses and go for a "ride" in the chair. If appropriate, the hygienist will clean your child's teeth and apply a fluoride treatment. The dentist will then examine the teeth for cavities and check the bite for proper development. The tongue and gums are examined for irregularities and oral habits which could affect the developing bite are reviewed. We may also recommend necessary and appropriate x-rays.
The dentist will discuss your child's oral health and dental development and provide an explanation of the findings. If your child requires additional treatment, the proposed treatment, the number of appointments needed and the associated fees will be reviewed at this time.
